About us

A Labor of Love in Preserving Crete’s Venetian Heritage

At Casa Vindemia, we (Nikos and Virginia Spanaki) have poured our hearts into creating a space that feels like stepping into a piece of Crete’s cherished history. As siblings born and raised on this beautiful island, we have always felt a deep-rooted connection to its stories and traditions. Driven by a shared passion for the remarkable Venetian-era architecture scattered across Crete, we ventured into short-term hospitality with a unique vision: to protect and share these historic treasures in a way that feels like home.

Our journey began with a simple yet ambitious idea—to breathe life back into Crete’s architectural gems from the Venetian period, properties that might otherwise fade quietly into the landscape. The Venetian influence, with its arches, carved stone, and natural materials, is woven into the soul of Crete, blending history with the beauty of the Mediterranean. With each property, we feel a responsibility to preserve its essence, to let each wall, beam, and stone continue to tell its story to those who come and stay.

Virginia, with her background in Architectural Design, Art History, and Venetian History, brings a historian’s respect and an artist’s eye to every renovation. Her expertise and dedication are present in every corner, every carefully chosen detail, all aimed at honoring the property’s character. Her knowledge has become the backbone of our project, allowing us to preserve authenticity while offering guests the modern comforts that make their stay as enjoyable as it is memorable.

We love the idea of sharing the quiet charm of Cretan village life, the timeless beauty of Venetian design, and the warmth of true Cretan hospitality with our guests. At Casa Vindemia, we don’t just want you to stay with us; we want you to feel the essence of Crete, to experience its history and its heart, and to leave with unforgettable memories of your own.

Welcome to Casa Vindemia—a place where history, tradition, and hospitality are preserved, cherished, and shared.
